Local (internet) papers
In past years, a lot of teams have made it to the local papers. Fundraising efforts appeared in the local papers, on radio and even on tv. How did they do it?
- Write down why you are participating in the JDRF One Walk and why you want to turn Type One into type None. Think about why your local paper, radio station or tv station should pay attention to you and work this into a short article.
- Send an email to local papers or publish the article online on free contribution pages.
- Call the paper, radio or tv station beforehand to check if they're interested
- If it doesn't work out the first time, try again!

Lots of radiostations have timeslots where people can call in to leave a message. For example the program 'De staat van Stasse' at the KRO radio station, where you can call in between 8 and 10 PM to talk about your day. Especially local radio stations are always looking for stories like yours, so don't be afraid to call them.
Local tv stations are always looking for good stories, and you participating in a fundraising effort for people with Type 1 Diabetes (maybe your child, your partner or grandchild) is a story. If you organize any kind of big event to raise money, it's even more likely they will want to broadcast your story. Don't be afraid to give them a call!
Leave flyers, posters and other materials at your hospital or ask your diabetes team to join you for the JDRF One Walk. It might also be possible to get an article in the hospital's digital newsletter.
Employers, sport clubs, schools and other clubs and association
Does your employer have a employee magazine or newsletter? Are you part of a sport club with a magazine? Tell them about your initiative and ask them to publish an article on your story, the JDRF One Walk and Type 1 Diabetes. If you never try, you never know!
